Deep Dive: The Lake Sturgeon in the Ottawa River – October 8th, 2020

Join Ottawa Riverkeeper for a talk from Tim Haxton as he gives a historical and contemporary overview of the Lake Sturgeon in our river.

Want to learn all about Lake Sturgeon in the Ottawa River watershed? Ottawa Riverkeeper will be hosting Tim Haxton, Fisheries Specialist at Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, as he gives our community a historical and contemporary overview of this endangered fish in our river.

This talk will cover sturgeon’s colonization of our waterways, ancestral genetic linkages, and its limitations. Tim will also discuss spatiotemporal variation in juvenile sturgeon, an indirect link to our work with the endangered freshwater mussel, the hickorynut, which depends on the sturgeon as part of its life cycle.
