Human or Homo sapiens
Size : Adults typically weigh 50 to 100 kg though much larger specimens have been recorded.
Habitat : Not good swimmers relative to other species. Most humans dramatically alter the natural environment where they live. They typically build dwellings made of concrete, wood and other materials. To access the river they often use boats.
Diet : Omnivorous and will eat almost anything. Especially fond of burgers, pizza and sushi.
Native/non-native : Evolved in Africa but have spread over the entire planet.
Status : Not-endangered. Highest populations in the watershed occur in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. Populations are the lowest in the northern-most part of the watershed.
Fun Fact : A growing number of humans are now working to protect the river and its biodiversity through stewardship activities…these humans are known as Riverkeeper supporters.
