Size: The wingspan of a dragonfly can be from 2 to 5 inches.


Habitat: Dragonflies live in fresh shallow water.


Diet: Dragonfly nymphs eat anything that’s larger than them like small fish, tadpoles and even other dragonfly nymphs. Adults eat other flying insects like bees.


Native/non-native: Dragonflies are found on every continent except Antarctica.


Status: There are several species of dragonflies that are currently endangered such as the Riverine clubtail, Hine’s emerald, Laura’s clubtail, Pygmy snaketail and the Rapids clubtail.


Fun Fact: Dragonflies are the best flyers. They can fly up, down, side to side, forward and back at great speeds. With this flying power, they can easily fly across entire oceans. They are also known for their great speed and they are the fastest insects ever recorded.
