Press Release

January 28th, 2016 – OTTAWA, Ontario

For Immediate Release

Ottawa Riverkeeper is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Patrick Nadeau as its new Executive Director.  Effective immediately, Mr. Nadeau will be responsible for leading Riverkeeper’s dynamic team of staff and volunteers, as well as for the overall management of the organization. Meredith Brown, the outgoing Executive Director, remains within the organization as the Riverkeeper, where she will continue to bring communities together and serve as a voice for the health of the Ottawa River watershed.

Patrick Nadeau comes to Ottawa Riverkeeper after several years as the Executive Director for Québec of CPAWS, a nationally respected conservation organization. In this role, he successfully led high-level policy and advocacy initiatives which resulted in concrete environmental gains for Québec – namely in the fields of forest and marine conservation, as well as northern development and land-use planning. Mr. Nadeau also supported indigenous conservation initiatives, and has been recognized both by the Cree and Inuit leadership in Québec for his organization’s collaborative work.

Mr. Geoff Green, founder of the award-winning program Students on Ice and Chairman of the Board at Ottawa Riverkeeper stated: “We are pleased to welcome Patrick to the Ottawa Riverkeeper family. He joins this organization at a time of great progress and growth, and we consider his appointment as a sign of our commitment to continue building on this momentum, including an increased presence in Québec”. Mr. Green also commented: “We are privileged to be able to count on the continued presence of Meredith Brown, a long-time advocate and champion for the river, within our midst. Together with Patrick, our staff, volunteers, and our numerous partners, we will continue to work towards a watershed where we can safely swim, drink and fish our local waters”.
