Youth

In August, Youth Water Leaders visited both the National Herbarium of Canada and an NCC archeological dig to see more of the past and present of the watershed, from its plants (or plant-like species) to its people.

The Youth Water Leaders continue their exploration of the watershed, with a visit to the Mer Bleue peat bog, lessons on water quality at Parc Moussette, and a tour of a hydro power generating facility.

This month, the Youth Water Leaders set out to challenge themselves during a three day urban kaya-rafting expedition on the Ottawa River. With the support of Boreal River Adventures, the youth were able to experience the power of the river like never before.

In the last couple weeks the Youth Water Leaders have learned about fisheries science, invasive species, and human impacts on freshwater ecosystems.

A month into the program, the 2022 cohort of Youth Water Leaders are learning about issues of environmental justice, sustainability, indigenous relations to water and land, and have begun getting out into the field to explore the watershed.
