Size: The Northern water snake can grow up to 135 cm in length.


Habitat: It is found in North America from southern Ontario and southern Quebec to Texas and Florida. They live in both freshwater and land and don’t travel far from any body of water. They can be found in vegetation, and hiding in sticks.


Diet: This species of snake eats small fish, frogs, worms, leeches, crayfish, salamanders, small birds and other small mammals.


Native/ Non-native: Native to North America.


Fun Fact: The northern water snake is also an invasive species in California. There, they compete with giant garter snakes for food.
