Ottawa Riverkeeper welcomes support for integrated watershed management in Québec

Ottawa Riverkeeper is ready and willing to collaborate with the OBVs, the ROBVQ, and the TCR on this integrated management initiative.

Montebello, February 21, 2020. Ottawa Riverkeeper welcomes the implementation of an integrated management approach for water resources of the Ottawa River watershed, which was announced this morning by the Minister responsible for the Outaouais, Mr. Mathieu Lacombe, on behalf of the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, and Fight Against Climate Change, Mr. Benoit Charette.

Ottawa Riverkeeper has long insisted on the need for improved dialogue and integrated management of the large Ottawa River watershed. Today’s announcement is an important step in the right direction, highlights Elizabeth Logue, the organization’s Riverkeeper: “Despite its socioeconomic, cultural and environmental importance, and despite its status as the most important tributary of the Saint Lawrence River, the Ottawa River has, for a long time, slipped through the cracks in terms of water management. We are confident that this could be improved thanks to the mandate that has been entrusted to the organismes de bassin versant (OBV) as well as the Table de concertation régionale (TCR).”

Ottawa Riverkeeper is ready and willing to collaborate with the OBVs, the ROBVQ, and the TCR on this integrated management initiative, particularly making any data collected from its research projects available for use.
